Transform Your Life with Emerald Healing Arts

What Is Jin Shin Do™ Bodymind Acupressure?

Jin Shin Do™ Bodymind Acupressure is a gentle, non-invasive form of acupressure that integrates Eastern and Western approaches to healing. Developed by psychotherapist Iona Marsaa Teeguarden, it combines traditional Chinese acupressure with principles of emotional awareness and nervous system support.

The name Jin Shin Do can be translated as “The Way of the Compassionate Spirit.”

Sessions are typically quiet, slow, and deeply calming, making this work especially supportive for stress, emotional overwhelm, and those who prefer a lighter touch.

How Jin Shin Do™ Works

Jin Shin Do™ uses light, sustained finger pressure on specific acupressure points along the body’s energy pathways (often called meridians). Rather than working one point at a time, pairs of points are often held simultaneously to encourage balance and release.

This approach:

  • Encourages the body’s natural relaxation response
  • Supports nervous system regulation
  • Helps release tension held both physically and emotionally
  • Allows the body to integrate change gently, without force

There is no manipulation, thrusting, or deep pressure involved.

What Makes Jin Shin Do™ Different?

Jin Shin Do™ is distinct from massage and many other bodywork modalities.

Key differences include:

  • Sessions are usually fully clothed
  • Touch is gentle and still, not rhythmic or forceful
  • The focus is on balance and integration, not fixing or correcting
  • Emotional responses are welcomed but never pushed
  • The client remains fully present and in control throughout the session

Because of this, Jin Shin Do™ is often well-suited for people who:

  • Are sensitive to deep pressure
  • Feel overwhelmed, anxious, or burned out
  • Have experienced chronic stress or trauma
  • Want a slower, more meditative form of bodywork

The “Bodymind” Aspect

Jin Shin Do™ recognizes that stress and tension are not only physical. Emotional experiences can also be held in the body.

During a session:

  • You may notice physical sensations (warmth, softening, release)
  • You may notice emotions, memories, or insights arise
  • Or you may simply experience deep rest

There is no expectation to analyze or relive anything. Whatever arises is treated with respect, privacy, and care.

What a Jin Shin Do™ Session Is Like

A typical session includes:

  • A brief check-in about how you’re feeling and what you’d like support with
  • Gentle holding of acupressure points while you rest comfortably
  • Minimal talking unless you wish to speak
  • Time at the end to reorient before leaving

Many clients describe the experience as deeply grounding, subtle yet powerful, or restorative in a way that lingers.

After a Jin Shin Do™ Session

After a session, clients may notice:

  • A sense of calm or emotional clarity
  • Improved sleep
  • A gentle shift in mood or perspective
  • Temporary tiredness as the nervous system settles

These effects may unfold gradually over the next day or two.

Is Jin Shin Do™ Right for You?

Jin Shin Do™ may be a good fit if you’re looking for:

  • Gentle, supportive bodywork
  • Stress and emotional regulation
  • A quiet, non-invasive therapeutic experience
  • A complement to massage, therapy, or other healing work

If you’re unsure, sessions can always be adapted to meet your comfort level.
